About

My vision is to live in a world where disease prevention happens through good nutrition and healthy lifestyles rather than through medicine.

To me, food is so much more than just nutrition, it is about fun, family, friends and community. It excites and unites us.

I understand how powerful healthy food is in supporting the body. This motivates and inspires me to continue to raise awareness of the impact that good nutrition can have in preventing and combatting disease.

I genuinely care about every one of my clients. I want you to succeed and promise to support you on your individual health journey, whatever that may be. I understand that everybody is different, with different genes, different lifestyles and daily challenges to face.

I promise to listen to you, take time, be compassionate and empathetic, researching and compiling the best solutions for you as an individual.  I will always work with integrity,  finding the most appropriate solution for you, which may mean referring you to a differently qualified practitioner.

I will never recommend tests or supplements that are not necessary and I will always be mindful of the cost to you as my client.

My aim is always to support you in developing life-long habits rather than unsustainable short-term plans. My promise to you is that your health journey will be sustainable, delicious, satisfying and fun. I will always listen, be professional and friendly, empathetic and non-judgemental.

In our world where the environment is becoming more toxic and unhealthy, and more processed foods are being manufactured and consumed, it is more important than ever to return to whole foods and prepare meals from natural ingredients.  Natural, wholesome food is an essential part of well-being, disease prevention and recovery from chronic illness.

Jane Mostowfi Nutritional Therapist

My Approach

Many people come to a Nutritional Therapist at the end of a long journey of frustration. Years of yo-yo dieting, ongoing chronic symptoms, energy slumps and low mood, wonky hormones or digestive issues that medications just don’t seem to help.

I use a food-first approach and address any imbalances within your diet and lifestyle. Only then will I use supplements, if necessary.

I take time to explore your full story and ensure you feel heard. I gather the information from all aspects of your life, consider the side effects from medications that may increase, or even cause, some degree of your symptoms.

Together, we will set goals that work to enhance systems in your body such as digestive function, strengthening the immune system, balancing blood sugar levels and improving the body’s natural detoxification pathways. I always stay central to the investigation and connect the dots. The focus is always on home cooking using whole, fresh and real foods.

My approach is a hands-on and personal with a food-first focus.

Supporting you on your journey

My aim is to get you excited about the positive and powerful effects that food can have on your wellbeing, whether it’s in your breakfast bowl, lunch box or dinner plate. I love helping more people to make long-term healthy habits.

I believe that making simple daily changes will help you feel better and function well. I want you to understand that the food you eat affects every cell in your body and is the difference between you feeling ‘not bad’ or feeling fantastic.

If you are committed to improving your health, I will be right there with you.

What to expect at a Nutritional Therapy Consultation?

  • Explore your medical history and health timeline to understand your current symptoms.
  • Assess your physiology from presenting signs and symptoms and any past medical testing to identify underlying imbalances.
  • Suggest any relevant additional functional testing to obtain updated information
  • Recommend personalised dietary changes to optimise nutrition and address nutritional deficiencies
  • Provide menu plans relevant to your specific dietary needs
  • Suggest behavioural changes and lifestyle management through achievable goal setting and identification of challenges and barriers
  • Initial Conversation

This is a free 20 -minute chat to establish your current health situation and whether we are the right people to help you.

  • Questionnaire and Food Journal

You will be provided with your own client portal to complete your specific health questionnaire and you will be asked to journal your food diary, exercise, mood and sleep for a week before we meet.

  • Initial Consultation

During your initial consultation we focus on:

    • - Understanding you and your body
    • - Medical history
    • - Family history
    • - Current physical activity levels
    • - Lifestyle and work-life
    • - Sleeping habits
    • - Food choices

We then discuss your priorities and health goals, both short-term and long-term.

  • Nutritional Plan

This plan isn’t just about picking the right food. We provide information on foods to include or avoid, taking into account your likes and dislikes. We also look at introducing a degree of physical activity that suits your lifestyle. We may also recommend supplements, if necessary, to give your body an initial kickstart. The key word here is ‘agree’. We agree your plan with you so it’s realistic and you are enthusiastic about the changes you will make, not overwhelmed. After all, we can provide the support but it’s your commitment that makes it happen.

  • Tests and Specialists

Where needed, we may recommend additional functional testing. Private testing is more detailed than that performed by a GP as we look for a wide range of markers. This provides us with a snapshot of your immediate health and can indicate a route to help you feel better. We may also refer to specialists such as a physiotherapist, chiropractor, acupuncturist, or other professionals if we feel this is appropriate for your continued health and wellbeing. We will always aim to work alongside your GP and other medical professionals involved in your care to reach the best possible outcome for you.

Our Food Philosophy

Vegetables play a star role in our recipes

We want to encourage the idea of eating with the seasons and ‘Eating a Rainbow’. Our recipes are based on the Mediterranean diet framework, but incorporate World flavours taking into account the nutritional values of the ingredients we use. We know not everyone loves cooking or has the time to spend hours preparing meals so our recipes are not complicated nor time consuming. Our emphasis will always be on freshness, do-ability, great flavours and traditional ways of food preparation that have been lost in the age of fast, processed and packaged foods.

We love the
Mediterranean diet

Not only because the Mediterranean diet is delicious and incredibly tasty, it is also the most researched diet framework on the planet. Many studies have shown its long-term health and optimum weight benefits compared to any other diet. This is because it’s based on eating low Glycemic Index Foods (GI) that tend to be much higher in fibre and releases sugar much more slowly. This will help keep the weight off and halve the risk of developing diseases such as Diabetes Type 2 and reduce the risk of developing Cancer. More excitingly it will keep your brain in good shape and slow down the ageing process.

Quality organic meats

We use quality organic meats, mainly to add flavour or for therapeutic use – not as the main focus of the dish.

Our recipes showcase pulses, legumes, nuts, seeds, fish, seafood and plenty of plant-based healthy oils, herbs and spices. Our focus is always on good foods, rather than calories, and we’re always low on sugars and starchy carbs.

Remember that whatever calories you put in your mouth, the mix of microbes in your gut will help decide on what proportion is absorbed. And foods can behave differently depending on how you prepare them and what you eat them with.

Fermented foods

We love making fermented foods as they are so good for us and take us back to our childhood where preparing them seasonally was a social event. Although we don’t use a lot of dairy in our recipes, we do have our favourite Kefirs, homemade live yoghurts, delicious unpasteurised cheeses (fermented) and occasional dollops of crème fraiche!

Our goal is to eliminate the confusion, and help you make simple food choices for a healthier, better you, to put you back in control of your health.

Therapeutic Kitchen

Who we are

How we got here…

We started our careers a long time ago in the corporate world in banking and corporate hospitality but our passion has always been food and its incredible effects on health and wellbeing.

In 2004, we took the plunge and bought the Food for Friends Restaurant in Brighton, a vegetarian and special dietary requirement restaurant. In 2010, we published our first cookery book, Food for Friends; Modern Vegetarian Cookery at Home.

We opened our second restaurant, Kindling in 2018, with the ethos, ‘Food that is kind to the environment and good for the soul’. It has an open fire used to cook super-seasonal, local foods using traditional cooking methods with a Modern British twist.

After completing our studies at the College of Naturopathic Medicine and Leith’s Cookery School in London, we set up Therapeutic Kitchen.

Now we combine our knowledge and passion for food with our expertise in nutrition and therapeutic cooking to help our clients thrive.

Jane Mostowfi

My happy place is in the kitchen cooking. It’s how I de-stress, get creative and show my love for others.  Food to me has always been something that excites me and it represents happy times I’ve shared with friends and family.

Believe it or not, I refused to eat anything red or green until I was 14 so there is hope for us all!

It wasn’t until I reached my 30s that I started to gain immense respect for the healing power of food.

I have had my own health issues over the years and had to watch my weight but I can truly say that making some simple adjustments and creating new habits in my diet and lifestyle have worked long term so that I am symptom-free. I would love to help you achieve this too so you can feel the best version of yourself.

Food is that powerful.

I genuinely care about my clients and I am there for them on their health journey. You can count on me to encourage, motivate and celebrate every win, however small because I really believe it’s about taking lots of small steps to make lifelong sustainable changes.

Even if you don’t enjoy cooking, you can still support your health with nutritional therapy. While the demands of modern life can make healthful eating seem out of reach or too complicated, it does not have to feel like that. We simply adjust your plan to your life and commitments.

Nutritional therapy is so powerful and together with cutting edge laboratory testing, it will help you understand the root cause of your symptoms.  Having this knowledge can be inspiring because it gives you the power and ability to optimise your health and vitality. Health is so much more than just the absence of disease.

I am a member of The British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine (BANT) and The Association of Naturopathic Practitioners (ANP). I am registered with The Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council.

Ramin Mostowfi

As a foodie, restaurateur and Natural Chef, I simply love food and feel passionate that healthy food does not need to be boring. I love developing recipes with a focus on balancing flavours and nutritional values, and using whole, organic, fresh, and minimally processed foods procured in season.

I understand that having a nutrition and lifestyle plan can be very exciting as the first step on your journey to reach your health goals but I also know how overwhelming it can feel. That’s why as a qualified therapeutic Chef, I can bridge the gap between the knowledge of a nutritional therapy practitioner and the world of therapeutic cooking.

I work alongside Nutritional Therapists and other practitioners to design bespoke recipes and meal plans for clients who simply want to improve their diet or have a particular health goal. I wear many hats in our business, such as Marketing, Finance, Operations and I.T and I also take the lead with our  Nutritional Cooking Workshops, 14 Day Bespoke Meal Plans and Smart Diet Reviews

Let us help you harness the power of nutritional therapy and achieve true wellness.
